Please join us in celebrating the 30th anniversary of the California State Library Adult Literacy Initiative at the 13th Annual Upland Public Library Trivia Bee and Silent Auction. Team Rutherford, led by County Supervisor Janice Rutherford, will return to defend their 2013 title as Trivia Bee Champions. This evening competition of friendly banter and bidding takes place the Gibson Senior Center, Thursday, September 18, 6:00 p.m. The Gibson Senior Center is located at 250 N. 3rd Avenue. Admission to the Trivia Bee and Silent Auction is free and allows you to bid on a variety of prizes, and watch and cheer for your favorite trivia teams. Trivia teams can win bonus points from the judges for the exceptional use of wise cracks, puns, and/or graphics (marker boards provided). Trivia judges award points for correct answers, plus bonus or make-up points for flair, presentation, and/or Bee Bucks. Master of Ceremony Bob Cable presided over the mayhem in 2013, as the teams guesstimated, sketched, sang and sometimes provided the correct answer for the most points.
All proceeds benefit Uplandís Adult Literacy Program, for which state funding is determined by the amount of local monies raised. Trivia teams and auction items are sponsored by local businesses and community organizations. For information on sponsoring or participating as a team ($150 team entry fee) or on donating goods or services as auction items, please contact Literacy Coordinator Liz Barbee, (909) 931-4211.

With a husband she barely knew, the young bride arrived at this immense estate, only to be inexorably drawn into the life of the first Mrs. de Winter, the beautiful Rebecca, dead but never forgotten... her suite of rooms never touched, her clothes ready to be worn, her servant ó the sinister Mrs. Danvers ó still loyal. And as an eerie presentiment of evil tightened around her heart, the second Mrs. de Winter began her search for the real fate of Rebecca... for the secrets of Manderley.
