Living in Upland

Animal Services - Introduction

The City of Upland Animal Shelter facility impounds the stray and homeless dogs/cats found abandoned or lost within the local community. Whereas the shelter is not a no-kill facility, great strides have been taken to give sheltered animals every opportunity to be reclaimed by owner, rehomed through adoption or rescued prior to euthanasia. The City of Upland Manager's Office oversees and facilitates day-to-day operations of the animal shelter.

Proactive in its approach to saving lives, the shelter is open 7 days a week. The shelter, due to a generous donation made by the Landecena Foundation, microchips dogs/cats adopted from the shelter free of charge along with those dogs/cats belonging to Upland residents. Upland is the only city in the country that is providing this service to area residents free of charge.

The tiny microchip no larger than the size of an uncooked grain of rice, once inserted into the pet, provides a permanent lifetime identification so that any pet can be quickly reunited with its owner as soon as it is scanned when found upon entering the sheltering system.

Additionally, the shelter conducts a low cost rabies vaccination clinic and microchipping each year. For more information contact shelter staff.
