Hey teens, get your bands of four together for the Guitar Hero® World Tour Tournament at the Upland Public Library. Meet the challenge and claim your title as the Library’s best band!
Have you ever wondered how to reduce your water bill and yard maintenance? Would you like to attract native birds to your own backyard? This 4-hour seminar will teach you the basics of California Friendly water wise gardening to do all of those things and many more. Topics covered include soil and fertilizers, design basics, plant selection and irrigation. City of Upland and San Antonio Water Company customers will be provided with their water usage history to serve as a reference during the class as well as handouts, water wise giveaways and snacks. Instructor provided by Metropolitan Water District of Southern California.

An Earth Day Hero is someone who recycles, reduces, and/or reuses. Do your part and bring your gently used articles of clothing, house hold goods and appliances, books, toys and tools to be sold, exchanged, simply given away at the “Earth Day Hero” reuse meet. Each participant will have a 10 X 10 space (you may pay for more than one if you wish). You will need to supply your own tables, chairs, blankets, boxes, and change. All items being sold must be used. No new packaged items (store bought), food (homemade or pre-packaged), and/or beverages may be sold. Pre-registration is required. You will receive event instructions at time of registration.
Groups and organizations will be there also to accept donations of your used books (Friends of Upland Library), reading glasses (The Lions), working-but not in service cell phones (H.O.P.E. – Helping Out Friends Everyday), and infant and children’s clothing and supplies (Steven’s Hope). Refreshments will be sold by Upland Foothill Kiwanis.
Hazardous waste (oil, paint, paint thinner, antifreeze, fertilizers…) can be taken to the Public Works Department at 1370 N. Benson Ave from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. There will be information available for those of you looking for e-waste and sharps disposal and other helpful information and facts to help you be an Earth Day Hero.
Are you brave enough to take the "Food Fear Factor Survival Challenge"? Do you run from the table when your mom puts healthy vegetables in front of you? Run no more - step up to the challenge. Sign up to be part of this fun experience and show your family and friends that you can win the "Food Fear Factor Survival Challenge". Prizes will be awarded for the most "Fearless Challenger". Read to one of our certified Reading Education Assistance Dogs every Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to noon. Readers earn a free paperback book every 5th visit. Get great reading practice and have tail-wagging good fun, too! Encouraged for readers and those learning to read.
Kids aged 5-9 can enjoy great stories and snacks in the Library's Multi-Purpose Room. No pre-registration required, but please be on time!
Preschool storytime offers young children aged 3-5 the chance to experience children's literature through picture books, flannelboard stories, song, fingerplays, puppets and simple crafts. Pre-registration is required [contact the Youth Services Desk, (909) 931-4213] and children must be able to stay in the storytelling room without a parent present. Lasts 30-40 minutes.
Young Library users ages 2-3, accompanied by an adult, will enjoy stories, fingerplays, puppets, songs, and other activities. Storytime lasts 25 minutes. Pre-registration is required; contact the Youth Services Desk, (909) 931-4213.
